I love food… all kinds of food.  My biggest hurdle in the wellness journey has been sticking to a healthy diet.  Many of the eating plans I have followed in the past were too restrictive or not realistic.  It wasn’t until my first pregnancy that I really started learning about why some foods are healthy and why some are not.  I developed Gestational Diabetes and had to learn about macro nutrients and blood sugar levels.  I was able to control it with diet and exercise and I was able to keep it a bay totally with baby #2 by controlling my diet! This jump started the baseline for my eating plan.

With the help of my trainers and extensive research of my own in the last few years, I try to follow the 45/35/20 rule, where around 45% of my diet is protein, 35% is carbs and 20% is fat.  Let me just say, this is the IDEAL situation.  Most days are not even close to this perfect, but I try to err on the side of protein.  I attempt to stick to real, unprocessed foods: Veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, beans, lean meats, eggs, plain yogurt, oh and the CHEESE!!  Feta and Goat are my favorites….

I do give myself a cheat day once a week.  I eat anything I want for that whole day.  But if I do slip up during the week, I try to move on and not beat myself up it.  Just start over the next meal!  We are all under so much pressure to be perfect, it’s just not reality.   I struggled in high school and college with an eating disorder and body image issues, this gives me a plan of attack to reach my goals and live a healthier life.
